As a small boy Gordon spent his evenings doing deliveries for a dental technician in Stranraer. This is where his journey and passion began.After leaving school Gordon went to Newcastle College and studied Dental Technology for 3 years passing with distinction. He then joined the Royal Army Dental Corp where he trained further in Prosthodontics, Orthodontics, Crown & Bridge and Maxillofacial. After 5 years Gordon’s heart was still in his home town, so when the opportunity to become business partners with the technician he worked for as a small boy all those years ago came up, he embraced it and left the forces.

Two years passed and when his business partner retired Gordon became the sole owner of Stranraer Dental Laboratory.
Through Gordon’s hard work, long hours and dedication he has seen the Laboratory grow from a one man lab into the nine strong & continually growing professional team it is today.

When Gordon is not at the lab he relaxes at home with his family.

At weekends Gordon enjoys fishing and playing rugby and often tests out his gum shields on the pitch.

Tom Nixon - Chief Senior Technician
Tom has been involved with dental technology from 1989 starting out as a plaster room apprentice in his local laboratory in the north east of England.Tom graduated from Newcastle Technical College in Dental Technology in 1994.
He joined the Royal Army dental Corps the same year and had postings in the UK and Germany. As a sergeant in the RADC he attended many courses including Advances ceramics at VITA HQ , Bad Sackingen.Tom joined his long term associate and friend Gordon Keith at Stranraer Dental Lab and his aim is to help lead the lab into the Digital stage of its growth.In Toms spare time he tries not to hurt himself with his downhill mountain biking. Tom Can often be seen swimming about in the Lochs of Stranraer.

Hillary Keith – Qualified Senior Technician

Hilary Keith - Senior Technician
Hilary has been with the laboratory for over 15 Years. She graduated from Duncan Jordanstone College of Art in Interior and Environment Design with BDes (Hons). It was the artistic side of the job that first attracted Hilary to join the Dental Laboratory profession and become a technician. Hilary is very creative and has a keen eye to detail, making her an excellent technician.Hilary enjoys many artistic pursuits including jewellery making, crochet and pottery and has exhibited and sold her work locally. When Hilary is not using her artistic and creative side she enjoys open water swimming and has competed in great swims in Lake Windermere and Loch Lomond. Hilary also competes in dog agility with her German Shepherds.

Nicola Wilson - Dental Technician
Nicola started working at the Dental Laboratory when she left school at the age of 16. She continued her education at a higher level studying dental science and technology at Longside College, Glasgow while working at the Laboratory. Nicola has 12 years experience at the Lab and has gained a vast knowledge in the profession.Nicola thoroughly enjoys working with her fellow colleges who she has worked alongside with for many years. She enjoys all the aspects of the job and the light hearted atmosphere that working at Stranraer Dental Lab has.

In Nicola’s private time she enjoys being a mother and takes part in sport and fitness.

Kenneth Firman – Dental Technician Assistant

Kenny has been with the laboratory for 8 Years. His role at the lab involves assisting each technician with all the aspects of denture manufacturing. Kenny is a valued member of the team and is very competent in all the stages of dental production. He is also the IT wizard in the laboratory and is looking into doing a Computer Aided Design (C.A.D) course to help assist the lab into the technology stage of its growth.In Kenny’s free time he is the king of pub quizzes and enjoys keeping fit and playing football.

Patrick Barrett – Dental Technician Assistant

Patrick Barrett - Dental Technician Assistant
Paddy has been with the laboratory for over 4 years. He assists all the technicians in the manufacturing of dentures. In the plaster room Paddy excels in the skilful art of casting and trimming models.Paddy can be seen on a daily bases visiting the local dentist as he is also our local collection and delivery man.

Paddy likes to relax in his spare time by spending it socialising with friends or at home with his family.
